March 18, 2025: Celebrating Agriculture and Innovation
National Ag Day is a time to recognize and celebrate agriculture’s role in our daily lives. This year’s theme, “Together We Grow,” highlights the collaboration between farmers, agribusinesses, and communities that keeps our food supply strong and sustainable. Agriculture influences everything from the food we eat to the clothes we wear and even the fuel that powers our daily lives.
Why National Ag Day Matters
Recognizing the Contributions of Agriculture
Agriculture is the backbone of our economy and daily life. In 2023, the agriculture, food, and related industries contributed $1.537 trillion to the U.S. economy. That’s 5.5% of the nation’s GDP (Bureau of Economic Analysis). Beyond the financial impact, the food and agriculture sectors support nearly 24 million jobs, and each American farmer produces enough food to feed approximately 169 people per year!
Appreciating the People Behind Agriculture
Agriculture is more than farming. It’s a large industry made up of scientists, veterinarians, conservationists, agribusiness specialists, food safety inspectors, and more. Organizations like FFA, 4-H, AFA, and MANRRS are working hard to encourage young people to explore careers in agriculture. With the average age of a U.S. farmer now at , it’s crucial to inspire the next generation to carry on this important work.
FFA (Future Farmers of America)
Prepares students for leadership and careers in agriculture through hands-on experiences.
4-H
Teaches youth important life skills through learning in agriculture, STEM, and community leadership.
AFA (Agriculture Future of America)
Provides professional development and career support for college students in agriculture.
MANRRS (Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences)
Offers opportunities for minorities in agriculture-related fields.
Agriculture’s Job Market
It’s important to realize that the agriculture industry offers many professions outside of farming. Every day, engineers are designing better irrigation systems, food scientists are figuring out new ways to keep food fresh, and drone operators are using AI to monitor crops. Plus, there are careers in finance and supply chain management. With so many different roles, agriculture is a field that has something for just about everyone, no matter their skills or interests. Ag Printers works on the marketing and compliance side of agriculture.
